The holidays are a merry and heart-warming time of year. However, even during the most cheerful season, there are children suffering from severe illness. It is our honor to partner with the open-handed, tender-hearted, foundation that is Shadow Buddies. It is Shadow Buddies mission to provide emotional support for ill children. “The Shadow Buddies Foundation accomplishes this mission through unique educational and charitable programs designed to enhance the lives of children and adults while increasing compassion and understanding of diversity.”
Shadow Buddies was founded in 1995, and the story of the iconic thumbprint is what started it all. Marty Postlethwait, the mother of Miles, a premature baby boy with midline congenital disabilities, is where Shadow Buddies all started. She cautiously whispered to Miles, hoping for any sign her son was okay post surgery. Instead of speaking, Miles, in a sedated state, gave his worried mother a thumbs-up.
Today Shadow Buddies “brings smiles, hope, and companionship to medically challenged children across the country and around the world in the form of cuddly, plush Buddies. Each Shadow Buddy doll represents a unique illness and gives children the sense that they have a friend “just like me” to comfort them when they are most vulnerable.
During our Holiday Open House, we will be donating a portion of proceeds to the Shadow Buddies Foundation with the hopes that it will bring merriment to so many sick children. Please join us on December 9th and shop for a cause.
